Sir Nathaniel William Wraxall's Historical Memoirs first appeared in 1815 and his Posthumous Memoirs in 1836. Even though the critics panned the work in 1815 as a scandelous mix of gossip & trash, the public loved it. He was sued for libel & forced to revise & reissue his work. Wraxall believed that the government of the day, furious at his truthfulness, was behind the libel action that sent him to prison for three months. Thus, he decided to publish the remainder of his memoirs after his death to avoid furthur litigation. Surprisingly, the posthumous work published in 1836 was critically acclaimed. Great Britain, Denmark, Society & Politics; B&W & Color Illus.; 8vo; 2256 pages .

1936 DIXIE CUP "SCRAPBOOK OF STARS" PHOTO PREMIUMS COMPLETE SET (24)

By Entertainment

Chicago: Dixie-Vortex Company. Very Good. 1936. First Edition. Hardcover. These DIXIE CUP PREMIUMS were given to a patron when they had 12 collectible ice cream lids with miniature photos of stars. After collecting the 12 needed lids required to trade for one photo, most children decided it was better to keep all 12 lids rather than trade them for one photo therefore increasing the high collectibility and scarceness of the premiums. A series of 24 different stars were published for each year along with a special cover. In 1936 8 of the 24 featured stars had 2 separate portraits issued, thus there is a total of 32 in this special set. These full-color large-format premiums feature beautiful artwork and rich color printed on heavy card stock paper. Each premium was designed with a color stripe & two holes along the left edge for easy binding in a scrapbook. Each year the color of the stripe & the lettering changed; thus, although undated, each year's issue is distinctive. The reverse of each 8 x 10-inch premium features black-and-white stills from the star's recent films along with a few short paragraphs about the star. (the front but not the back cover is included). Condition ranges from VG to NF (near fine) . Original owner's information filled in on printed form on verso of front cover. Entertainment, Movie Stars, Hollywood, Cowboys. ; 8vo; 32 pages .
