(cgc). Edward Sabine was an astronomer with the British Naval Northwest Passage Expedition (1818) under John Ross. In his pamphlet "Remarks," he accuses Ross of publishing information that he had personally collected and prepared, without acknowledging Sabine as the source. In short, Sabine charges his former boss with plagiarism. Ross responds to Sabine's claims in his "Explanation," and outlines the circumstances related to compiling the report from materials supplied by the Admiralty, including Sabine's journals and notes.
