About This Item
Over 600 hand-colored, silk-pattern designs on paper in various dimensions (of which a dozen full-page, and two double-page), mounted onto plain sheets of a book. The book-block loosely inserted into an older vellum binding; unrelated title lettered on the front panel. The patterns are placed onto the first 71 pages (the remaining leaves left blank). In addition: 2 loose large designs, and 3 original silk brocade samples (stamped, labeled, and dated by the Yemeniz manufacture). The vellum binding is somewhat worn. The first pages are dusted, dogeared here and there. The pattern designs and the silk samples are in fine condition. Overall in very good condition.
Nicolas Yemeniz's register book of silk-pattern designs, comprises more than 600 motifs, together with three original silk brocade samples.
Nicolas Yemeniz (1781-1871) was a descendant of a Greek Phanariot family from Constantinople, established himself in Lyon as a textile merchant and manufacturer of upholstery silk; by his extensive book and manuscript collection, he is counted among the greatest French bibliophiles at the end of the 19th century.
