About This Item

London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1955 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good Only. 8.5" by 5.5". Not stated. The first UK edition of this exploration book detailing a visit to the Middle East with many illustrations. First UK edition of Qataban and Sheba, Exploring Ancient Kingdoms on the Biblical Spice Routes of Arabia by Wendell Phillips in the original publisher's cloth binding and clipped dust wrapper. Wendell Phillips was an American archaeologist who led some of the first archaeological expeditions in modern day Yemen and Oman. Densely illustrated with seventy eight monochrome plates, various diagrams throughout the text and three maps. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding and clipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart. There is some wear to the dust wrapper, including some significant loss to the rear panel. To the binding, there is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot. Very Good
