About This Item
London: Printed for William Tait, Edinburgh and Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, and Green.., 1830.. Second edition, "corrected and greatly enlarged". 8vo. xii, 563, (1) pp. Recent dark blue half morocco over matching cloth boards, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered red label, all edges speckled. A very good copy. A disciple of David Ricardo, McCulloch has been described as the "first professional economist" (ODNB) for his large body of writing on the subject. The origins of this work lie in his entry on political economy for the 1822 edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, much praised by Ricardo and expanded into the first edition published in 1825. This revised and further extended edition appeared five years later with three subsequent editions appearing thereafter.
