The First UK Printing published by Dent in 1980. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Very mild pushing to the spine ends. The gilt titling remains bright. Some light toning to the text block and to the page edges due to the quality of the paper stock used. A small neat penned number to the upper rear end paper. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition. Very light creasing to the upper spine tip with mild rubbing to the upper corners. The wrapper is very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been inscribed and signed by the author to the front blank end paper: 'To Adrienne, Best wishes, Lynne Reid Banks'. Wonderful B/W illustrations throughout by Robin Jacques. The first title in the highly acclaimed series which was successfully adapted into a movie. A special Limited Edition published by the Land Press in 1980. The BOOK is in Fine condition. Original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt, decorations to covers gilt and silver designed by James Brockman. With the original blue cloth slipcase as issued in near Fine condition. This is number 31 from an edition of only 400 copies which were Signed by the Author and printed on Barcham Green paper. Accompanied by firstly, the loose Prospectus and secondly, a printed letter from Christie Art auctioneers with a photo of the special leather bound book referring to the prospectus. A very handsome edition of this title originally published in 1964 which has been successfully adapted for the movies starring Colin Firth and directed by Tom Ford.

The sole UK printing published by The Gehenna Press, UK in 1981. Number '120' of only 250 copies issued. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a tiny amount of rubbing and a very small split to the extreme spine tips. Free from inscriptions and erasures. 'The woodcuts were printed from the blocks ; the paper is Dover, handmade at Maidstone, Kent, these copies are signed by the poet and artist and are numbered one to two hundred and twenty five.'. Leonard Baskin has provided five full page B/W woodcuts, a further one hand coloured and a further half page bird decoration to the limitation page. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. The decorative bookplate of Sir Michael Fraser, Lord Fraser of Kilmorack pasted in to the front pastedown. Laura Knight has penned a signed elaborate doodle to the title page. This doodle is presumable that of Lord Fraser and his wife having a meal. The boards are clean with just some light fading and pushing to the spine ends. There is some mild toning to the text block with light offsetting of the end-papers. The book is tight, clean and free from markings and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition. It bears the correct price of 10s 6d. It has some very minor edge-wear with associated creasing and rubbing to the tips of the spine. The spine is slightly toned but this does not detract from the pictorial wrap around design. The rear panel has mild age related markings but less so than usually encountered. The wonderful period wrapper artwork is by the renowned artist John Minton and looks stunning in the Brodart protective cover.
