About This Item

[BRUCE MACGREGOR, TED BENSON]. PORTRAIT OF A SILVER LADY: THE TRAIN THEY CALLED THE CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR. Pruett Publishing Co., 1977. First Edition, Second printing. Condition: Near Fine / VG+. Appears unread, with original silver boards, title stamped on spine of book and illustration on front of slipcase, minor book creases to extremities, faint soiling to covers, minor indent to spine and one centimeter closed tear to slipcase, else pages are clean, bright and binding tight. With original publisher's slipcase, this unusually rare version has boards that are simply silver coated, not one-quarter black bound as the commonly found first edition version, this second printing version appears to not have been issued the dust jacket with the cover painting by Howard Lockhart Fogg. With over 400 historic photographs. The original California Zephyr train route was from Chicago, Illinois and Oakland, California via Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City and several other cities. In 1983 it was operated by Amtrak until the present from Chicago to San Francisco. Interior art opposite half-title by Howard Lockhart Fogg. Uncommon and elusive vintage book on the iconic California train, the California Zephyr, highly collectible. 357 pgs. 4to oblong.
