London: George G. Harrap and Company. 1944. First edition. First edition. Signed limited edition. Publisher's quarter black morocco over yellow buckram boards, circular Eighth Army formation badge in black and gilt to the upper board, titles in gilt to the spine. Top edge gilt. Frontispiece illustration signed and dated in pencil by the artist, complete with tissue guard. A near fine copy, the binding square and tight, the boards were slightly dust marked. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Signed by General B. L. Montgomery in black ink to the limitation page. This special edition was limited to 110 copies of which 100 were for sale. This example is numbered 76. A collection of 27 Poems written by serving soldiers and considered to be the best entries received in a poetry competition organised by Eighth Army's Education Officer. The poems appear in the order of which they were placed in the competition. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
