London: Hodder And Stoughton Limited, 1954. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 1954 FIRST UK EDITION SIGNED by Alfred Gregory and by Sir John Hunt. Original DELUXE binding of white parchment with gilt pattern decorated front and rear, gilt lettering spine, original rear EPs comprising a chart of the ascent of Everest. The book is hand-signed by Gregory on the pre-title page and by John Hunt on the page at the end of his introduction alongside his printed signature on the same page. Both signatures are handwritten, original, and not printed. The book is in excellent condition with very clean covers, some foxing along the extreme top edge of the covers, foxing on the first 3 and last 3 pages but no foxing on other pages, solid binding, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages (other than the penned signatures of Gregory and Hunt), solid binding (no cracking or splits). The original dust jacket has slight curling to extreme upper edge, no tears, no soiling, no loss, no rubbing, minor sunning to spine. This is one of the principal books on the first ascent of Everest by one of the team members. Examples, especially deluxe binding examples, signed by both Gregory and by Hunt are RARE. The book measures 28cm tall x 22cm, not paginated [96 pages], 43 glossy color photos. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
