Black cloth tape reinforcement to spine. Prior owner name to upper margin of front cover. Bumping to tips of book, with creasing to page corners. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked. Association copy: The prior owner, Craig Black (1932-1998), was a respected vertebrate paleontologist and professor who served as Curator and later Director of Carnegie Museum of National History, and from 1982 until his retirement in 1994, Director of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. ~HHH~ [1.5P] A new species of the placoderm fish Holonema is described from the Frasnian of Western Australia as H. westolli. A detailed account of the head and trunk shields is given; the palatoquadrate, opercular cartilage and gnathals are also described and receive special attention in view of the interest that attaches to these structures. Restorations of the armour are given in connexion with a discussion of the possible mode of life, and its convergent resemblance to antiarchs is noted.
