About This Item

U.S.A.: Random House, 1938. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. A near-fine copy in a very good unclipped dustjacket. By the author of "Seven Gothic Tales". A tight copy with a clean interior--unmarked with only mild overall toning. The dustjacket is unclipped with the $2.75 price as called for and the copyright page states "First Edition" with the year 1938. The dustjacket has moderate edgewear overall with a bit of paper loss to the tips--as well as some light discoloration to the bottom of the back panel-- but overall very good--especially for the year 1938. Very scarce in the first printing. Protected in a new clear acrylic dustjacket covering.

Synopsis

Out of Africa is a memoir by Isak Dinesen, a nom de plume used by the Danish author Baroness Karen von Blixen-Finecke. The book, first published in 1937, recounts events of the seventeen years when Blixen made her home in Kenya, then British East Africa. The book is a lyrical meditation on Blixen’s life on her coffee plantation, as well as a tribute to some of the people who touched her life there. It is also a vivid snapshot of African colonial life in the last decades of the British Empire.
