About This Item

Small octavo (7 5/8 by 5 1/4 inches) London, 1871. Fourth Edition, Enlarged and Revised. 300 pages, illustrated with black and white drawings of orchid plants, and a diagram of an orchid house, index, and 24 unnumbered pages of illustrated advertisements for gardening, and horticultural supplies, good condition, original hardcover green cloth with representative orchid plant in gilt on the front cover, and title in gilt on spine (binding shows mild shelf wear at front hinge, and inside front and back gutters, small old wet spot in lower corner of back cover, corners slightly bumped - all not affecting contents).

A respected contribution to the understanding of orchids, and their propagation. Written during a heightened interest in these exotic plants; and still referred to today.

About Caravan Book Store

For more than 65 years, we have specialized in rare and out of print books on the Western experience, satisfying a vast and varied clientele. Our focus is on early California and Los Angeles, represented by books, ephemera, paintings, and prints. Fine press, printing history, literature, gastronomy, aviation, railroads, and voyages are also available. Our store opened in downtown Los Angeles in 1954, and is now closed; but we are still available by phone, regular mail, and email. We issue occasional catalogs online.
