About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1977 . First edition. Hardback. Fine. 10" by 7.5". Nicola Bayley. A signed, first edition of this wonderfully illustrated nursery rhyme, by Nicola Bayley. First edition, in the publisher's original pictorial paper-covered boards. Signed by the author to the title page. Illustrated by children's book author and illustrator, Nicola Bayley, who is most known for her animal artwork. 'One Old Oxford Owl' is a fun tongue-twister rhyme, with the aim to help children practice speech and pronunciation. This charming work is filled with rhymes, such as 'Two toads totally tired trying to trot to Tisbury' and 'Nine nimble noblemen nibbling nectarines'. With a rhyme for each number, from one to twelve, accompanied by a full-page illustration, in colour. In the publisher's original pictorial paper-covered boards. Externally, lovely, with minor shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean. Author's signature to title page. Fine
