Illustrator: Photographic/Illustrations. 960 g.; IV, 5-240 pages, credits, bibliography, acknowledgements and index. Marbled endpapers. The text is illustrated with copious colour and black-and-white photographs, colour and black-and-white illustrations and maps. Brown faux leather ornately decorated covers with a picture showing part reproduction of Charles Deas' painting " The Trapper ", which has been pasted on post reduction. Gilt titles to the backstrip along with four raised bands to the top edge and lower edge of the backstrip. Light browning and foxing to the text block edges. A history of exploration westward, of the people, explorers, adventurers, traders and others opened up the vast American West for white settlement. Part of The Old West series.
