About This Item
Amsterdam: Henri Bordesius, 1711. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. 6 books bound in three volumes, leather backed boards. Spines and spine labels rubbed but bindings sound. Scattered foxing but generally clean and unmarked. With an extra engraved title, portrait, 3 folding plates and a folding map - light wear to plate edges, tiny tear to one of the map folds in the margin. The first critical edition of Rabelais - Duchat, urged on by Pierre Bayle (author of the great Dictionnaire Historique), Duchat set out to correct the plague of errors in all the extant editions of Rabelais.
