Simon & Schuster, New York, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover (Printed Boards). Very Good Condition/Fair. AVEDON, RICHARD, and CAPOTE, TRUMAN. Observations, New York: Simon & Schuster, 1959. Folio, first edition, pp. 152, printed boards, slipcased, lacking the acetate dust jacket, gravure plates showing artists, actors and other celebrities, warmly inscribed on the free front endpaper: "for Claudine and Peter with gratitude forever -- Dick Avedon." Roth, pp. 148-49: "Observations is the culmination of a creative collaboration between Richard Avedon and Alexey Brodovitch [the magazine editor]. ... Capote, who wrote his arch text between Breakfast at Tiffany's and In Cold Blood, is most valuable here for conveying Avedon's words, notably the photographer's observations on the beauty of age." Also see Hasselblad 178 and Auer 386. Condition of this book: Very good with loss of color on the covers, probably because of rubbing against the slipcase. The case itself has been tape-repaired.. x Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. . Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 2-3 kilos. Category: Photography; United States; 1950s; Fashion, Fabrics & Style. Los Angeles: Ward Richie, 1929. Octavo. 2pp. This is the second production noted in the bibliography of premier Southern California printer, Ward Richie. The edition consisted of 150 copies; it was a student project, done while Richie attended Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles. This is one of the scarcest of early Sandburg editions. 1printed sheet printed on [2]pages folded laid into 1 printed folded sheet (wrapper) lightly finger soiled with small chip to rear wrap.
