About This Item
Philadelphia: The Judson Press, 1953. Paperback. Small 4to. Self-cover offprint. 8pp. Illustrations. Near fine. Offprint of this short story from the February 8, 1953 issue (Volume 15, Number 2) of "'teens" magazine. Four-column format, with partly-colored line drawings and other articles interspersed. Wilburr's story fills the front page, and along the top of this she has typed a nice 3-line inscription to Arnold Gates "with the compliments and good wishes of the author," signing just above the story's title a large (5") full signature in thick black ink. Wilburr (1891-?) penned numerous children's and juvenile titles such as "A Year with the Poets and Birds" (1912), "Friday Afternoon Entertainments" (1914), "Bird Gossip" (1920), "A Stack of Black Cats" (1922) and "The Gang Goes to Mill" (1924). Gates (1914-93) was a noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar. Unusual in this format.
