About This Item
New York: The Culture Press, 1929. First Limited edition of 2000 stated. Near Fine. Bob Lafferty. HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents THE NEW RUBAIYAT. RARE--A TRUE COLLECTOR'S EDITION, this is #358 of a stated limited FIRST LITHO MANUSCRIPT FACSIMILE EDITION numbering 2000. SIGNED by the author. Bob Lafferty came from Wheeling, WV--a genius, visionary, author, architect, steelworker, and "...general crank, who later in life went to prison in a Wall Street stock fraud." (from The Wheeling Rare Book Collection by the Ohio County Public Library). 6" x 9", 123 pages plus a Forward and book ads by Harry E Owen. This is volume one of a projected 9 volume set of the thoughts of Bob Lafferty. A sample verse coming from Mr. Lafferty's "New Rubaiyat:" "I don't believe old Omar knew more cheer/Or had more fun nor was he more sincere/Of course with science that we should revere/We have improved that's why I'm writing here." Sketches and illustrations by the author. Overall the book is NEAR FINE, with no dust jacket as designed. Pages (printed on doubled, unsupported litho manuscript facsimile) = fine: moderately tanned, owners' names in pen on the author signature page, else clear, tight, sharp with beige end papers. Cover (dark brown leatherette with fully embossed designs and particulars front, back and spine; some embossing in gold gilt) = very good: wear to corners, fading to the gilt, else clear, sharp and tight. This volume was dedicated to Charles B Randall, a supporter of the author's activities.
