The unnamed compiler notes in the preface that s/he secured author and publisher permission to use recipes and literary quotes in this New England cook book, which includes Harriet Beecher Stowe, Ralph Emerson, George Eliot, John Burroughs, Marian Harland, and many others. Includes an interesting survey of 19th century dishes, from how to cook a deer head at camp to frumenty. Bitting p. 288. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 245 pages .
