New York; (1941): Citadel Press. Thick Octavo. . xvi, 1082 pages, index. It covers the writings from Phyllis Wheatley and Frederick Douglass to Richard Wright, Langston Hughes and Chester Himes. This massive work is a classic including also the last fifty pages of the institutional racism in the American South; especially, on lychings. From the library of collector Noel Sullivan, a concert singer and philanthropist who was also greatly interested in the welfare of Negroes and many became close personal friends. He supported Langston Hughes, Marian Anderson, William Lawrence and a young African American singer, Marcus Hall. A very good copy bound in beige cloth lettered in silver over black and repeated on spine, top edge stained blue-gray, in very good clipped, edge worn and chipped dust jacket.
