Price of $4.95 on front flap of dust jacket. A Judge Dee mystery with eight illustrations drawn by the author in Chinese style. Hubin 820. Based on the life and history of Judge Dee, a historical figure who lived during the Tang Dynasty. A nice copy of the fifteenth published mystery in the Judge Dee series, based on the history of the Tang Dynasty and other important cultural elements of historical China. A very near Fine book with a few hints of foxing to the top textblock in a Near Fine dust jacket with a few hints of edge wear, mild age toning to the reverse, and a few hints of foxing to the reverse of the dust jacket.

Synopsis

Necklace and Calabash is a detective novel written by Robert van Gulik and set in Imperial China (roughly speaking the Tang Dynasty). It is a fiction based on the real character of Judge Dee (Ti Jen-chieh or Di Renjie), a magistrate and statesman of the Tang court, who lived roughly 630–700. The book features eight illustrations by the author. Necklace and Calabash was the last Judge Dee novel published during van Gulik's lifetime.
