About This Item

London: Jones and Co. , 1827. Leather Bound Hardcover. Very good. 2 Very good half leather octavo hardcovers with with marbeled boards, edges, and endpapers. Some wear to edges and corners of set, with slight spotting and scuffing to the leather covers. and spine Red and black labels on spine, with 5 raised bands. Gilt spine designs still bright and attractive.

Both volumes have illustrated title pages with tissue leaves intact, in addition to the plain ones, noting publications by Jones and Co. Vol. 1's plain title page is undated, notes publication byby George Virtue, Seventh ed. V. 2 is dated 1827, and notes publication by Jones, Sixth edition. The unillustrated title pages are very similar, but with some differences in type at the botom of the page. Both volumes have frontispieces, v. 2 has the cameo of Napoleon.
This work caused a scandal, as O'Meara blamed the British Governor of St Helena, Hudson Lowe, of mistreating the Emperor. A classic work of Napoleonic history in an attractive binding.
