About This Item

[London]: Privately Printed, 1959. Foolscap format, 20 leaves, mimeographed from typescript on rectos only, side-stapled, and backed in black cloth tape.

A remarkable two part essay, followed by a selection of poems, by this key figure in British Bohemia, in which she calls for poetry performance to be remade with influences from skiffle and jazz. Orton was a collaborator with Marian Gray, Wally Whyton (of the Skiffle group The Vipers) and numerous others, at such clubs as Toni's, The Alexandria, and The French.

The collection of poems are dedicated to Johnny Martyn, Wally Whyton, and Nick Thacher, with thanks to "the following musicians who have shared in the experiments described;" Marian Gray, 'Long John,' and Frank Coldwell. In addition, one of the poems is dedicated to Christopher Bateson.

A key work which should be far better known.

Black cloth tape pulling away from head of spine, but the stapled binding still quite strong; some creasing and toning; very good.
