About This Item
New York: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1973. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First published in 1941, this is the 1973 American reprint. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, showing no marks or previous use. The blue cloth covers are fresh, with a bit of light wear and rubbing to edges and corners. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with light wear at the top and bottom of the spine. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. A very nice copy. Synopsis: Set in England in 1940. Stevenson continues the diary that Hester Christie is writing for her husband Tim who is fighting in the Low Countries during the months just before and after Dunkirk. On the surface this is an amusing record of a woman's round as housekeeper, mother, and hostess, but the simple life is complicated by the evidences of a country at war and there is the resolution to carry on sanely in an insane world
