About This Item
Charming, antique copy of "MOTHER GOOSE'S MELODIES" - or, Songs for the Nursery edited by William Wheeler. 1878; Houghton, Mifflin and Company; Boston and New York. The book features numerous full-page illustrations. At the beginning of the book is the story of "The Goose or Vergoose Family" (the family of Elizabeth Foster Goose of Boston, who is said to be the original Mother Goose). There is a "Notes" section at the back.
Condition:
Light soiling to the covers and spine; bright gilt lettering on the spine; tiny cloth tears to 3 of the corner tips; fraying to the edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages; crack at the rear hinge between the end paper and pastedown (despite the crack, the back cover is firmly attached and not shaky). Light stains/smudges to the pages and an occasional stray pencil mark; inscription dated 1910 in pencil on the front end papers. Overall the book is in very good condition.
