The first edition of Whitman published in the UK, the only time Whitman (reluctantly) allowed his writings and his portrait photograph to be censored.

Half title, Title, xv, 300, (21), (bl.), (1), (1)pp. 6 folding engraved plates. Later half calf, marbled boards, spine in six compartments, leather label, gilt lettering, rules and embellishment. Minor corner chips to half-title. Short closed fold tear to Plate I. Toned with some light offsetting of plates, foxing/browning to index.
This edition has an additional plate to the 1790 edition, plus additional material. The plates are each dated September 1, 1805. Significant to the library of the vine. A handsome volume.

A rather amazing collection of materials, both legal and historical, concerning the origin, development, traditions, influence, stages of belief and influence, and differences by region in the practice of witchcraft, magic and sorcery. Organized and edited from Lea's notes by Arthur Charles Howland, Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania, who also verified Lea's citations. Inscribed gift of editor.

"Why don't you come up sometime and see me?" SIGNED boldly "Mae West" in the less flamboyant style that was typical of her signature in the later 1970s. The bright and unfaded signature is guaranteed to be original and authentic. The photograph is in excellent condition; mounted on matboard.. SIGNED. First Edition. Paper. Boston, Massachusetts: Unpublished, 1957. Postcard dated Nov. 6, 1957 and addressed to Fraser Neiman in Williamsburg, Virginia. The text of the postcard reads: "Dear Mr. Neiman: We'll arrive probably by plane from Washington sometime Thursday morning. I think we should leave the next day; I have a sick cousin in Washington that I am anxious to see as much of as I can. I thought I'd read two poems, 'Beyond the Alps,' and 'Skunk Hour!' (Don't be alarmed by the second title) They are both about 45 lines long and should along with my comment take about twenty minutes. My wife and I very much look forward to the our visit. Yours sincerely," followed by a full signature ("Robert Lowell") in blue ink. Fraser Neiman taught English at the College of William and Mary and was responsible for finding speakers/readers for special occasions. Bound in dark-brown leather with gilt "Holy Bible" to spine panel. Blind rulings and decorative elements to spine, front and back panels. Presumably a personal copy of prominent Seventh Day Adventist leader and pastor and later one of its most outspoken critics D. M. Canright. Inscription on front free endpaper reads: "R Deming Bible | Bought January 24, 1866 | of Elder Canright | Seventh day adventist | Price $3.00".
