Externally rubbed but sound and attractive copy in a decorative Victorian binding, emerald green cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and black, 690 pages. Covers have some surfaces scuffing and edgewear, gilt and black printing bright and clear, very minor light fraying to corners and spine ends, front hinge internally neatly repaired, sound text block, small spot to front endpapers, notes in pencil on rear blank, no other markings.. Hard Cover. Good/No. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

In a fine early 20th c. full black morocco binding, gilt lettering and rules, four gilt decorations, one at each corner, four raised bands, ribbon marker, gilt-patterned end pages, the binding signed with the stamped initials O.B. at bottom front turn in. Paginated 1-20; (2 illus.): 175-192; (1 illus.): 257-278; (1 illus.): 385-406: (1 illus.) 4. Each with illustrations,14 in all, 5 of which are full page (those in parentheses) Following the Four Georges is a 4 page article from The Cornhill Magazine, dated January, 1923, titled "Esmond and General Webb: A Letter from Thackeray". First Edition. Half Vellum. Near Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

London: George Bell and Sons, 1889. Autograph Letter Signed by author of appendix and noted English shipbuilder J. Wigham Richardson attached at front end page, dated 30 March 1889 on his Newcastle on Tyne stationery and adressed to prior owner of the book W.E. Adams. 4 1/2" x 7" note card, single fold with writing on all 4 sides. " I have forwarded your letter to Miss Gatty requesting her to give effect to it. Yes I sent you that volume, but not in your editorial capacity..." ( W.E. Adams, 1832-1906, was editor of the Newcastle Weekly Chronicle). Richardson goes on to talk about his embarrassment at having been given authorial credit for his contribution, particularly "...had I known what Miss G. was going to do, I should have omitted the verse at the end." The book is Very Good in original quarter beige buckram over pale red buckram, gilt lettering, bit of soiling rear end page, page block uniformly browning, light wear to boards at corners and spine ends. .
