Wigham Richardson attached at front end page, dated 30 March 1889 on his Newcastle on Tyne stationery and adressed to prior owner of the book W.E. Adams. 4 1/2" x 7" note card, single fold with writing on all 4 sides. " I have forwarded your letter to Miss Gatty requesting her to give effect to it. Yes I sent you that volume, but not in your editorial capacity..." ( W.E. Adams, 1832-1906, was editor of the Newcastle Weekly Chronicle). Richardson goes on to talk about his embarrassment at having been given authorial credit for his contribution, particularly "...had I known what Miss G. was going to do, I should have omitted the verse at the end." One of an unknown number of unnumbered copies bound thus, in addition to 26 lettered copies, and 100 numbered, and some unnumbered copies, in wrappers, all signed by the author and the artist. This was the poet's own copy, inscribed to him by the artist ("Thanks De") on the colophon, with an original pencil drawing (with colored highlights) of two figures, seemingly the poet and the artist, on the colophon. Snodgrass's library blindstamp appears in the upper forecorner of the free endsheet.

Contains 3 handwritten letters from Tomlinson to his friend and fellow writer, Frederick Niven. 2 of these from Jan. and Feb., 1921, he talks about his life and plans, and Niven's influence. The third, dated July , 1923 is written from the Malay Straits, and relates his current project, which resulted in " Tidemarks ". This letter is in the original envelope, which is tipped to the front endpaper, with the postmark and stamp. The other two are in a single envelope postmarked in London in Feb. of 1921. This copy, from Niven's library, also bears a clipping, tipped to the front paste down, which elucidates his friendship with Tomlinson..

I could speak on Monday October 18th at 6.45, if that will do, but I should like you to let me know for how long you would like me to speak.....". 37 Holland Street, Kensington, W.8. 28th June 1926. 1 1/4 sides 8vo on 2 conjoined leaves, on cream paper; remains of an album leaf on the blank reverse of the second side. Very good. It was not until the following January that she addressed the Writer's Circle of the Institute of Journalists, the meeting chaired by Wilhelmina Stitch who afterwards hosted a dinner at Gatti's in her honour at which the menu consisted of dishes described in "Adam's Breed".

1892. Near Fine. 1 handwritten letter, dated Washington, D.C., 21 Feb. 1892, from Senator John Sherman in reply to an inquiry from J. M. Dickinson, Esq., New Lisbon, Ohio, about whether his son could get a position at the "Public Printer." John Sherman (1823-1900) represented Ohio in the U. S. Senate from 1861 to 1877 and from 1881 to 1897. From 1877 to 1881 he was Secretary of the Treasury, and in 1897 and 1898 he was Secretary of State. The Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 is named after him. General William Tecumseh Sherman was his brother. Using official Senate Chamber stationery and envelope the Senator tells Dickinson that there were not openings at the time but that he would inquire again later. J. M. (John M.)
