Brown cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. Maps as endpapers. 365 pp tall 8vo. Monty was known for his victories in WWII in the Western Desert of North Africa and his flamboyant eccentric personality. To some he was the outstanding battlefield general of the war but to others they considered him an overrated commander, over-cautious, and unimaginative. He never lost a battle, but his errors of judgment especially with the American military were disastrous. The author set out to discover how he rose to the top of a profession committed to many of the civilized virtues which Montgomery conspicuously lacked- tolerance, charm, good manners, and concern for the susceptibilities of others. A book full of his military command and philosophy and his deficiencies no longer relegated to the Officers' Mess. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
