About This Item
Mexico: Talleres Graficos De La Nacion, 1929. Quarto. 85 pages, Spanish text, illustrated by photographic images. The Rarmuri mostly practice their sacrifice ritual when singing the Tutugri (coyote) dance. One of the most interesting aspects of this ritual is their mixing of Christian symbols and their use of sacrifice. When they are about to sacrifice the animal they tie them to a wooden cross that in held by one Raramuri. Although the Christian symbol of the cross might form an important part in the sacrificial ceremony the Raramuri still give their offering to the four cardinal directions which is a pre-Christian offering. Bound in beige pictorial paper covered boards backed in light brown cloth. edges rubbed with corner wear. A very good copy.
