Limited edition of only 300 copies. ...A Review and Analysis of the Games of the Marshall-Lasker Championship Match, and the Thirteen Games Played by Marshall at the Ninth American Chess Congress at Lake Hopatcong, N.Y., 1923. This copy, inscribed by the author to Dr. Arthur E. West of Michigan who was one of the regional vice presidents of the National Chess Federation (before it became the USCF) which held its first meeting in Kalamazoo. Dr. West gave freely of his time and money for the first year of the federation's existence in hopes it would become worthy as a national body. Frank J. Marshal was born in New York City in 1877. He began playing chess at the age of 10. He held the U.S. championship title for 27 years, from 1909-1936. One of his legendary games was against Stephan Levitsky at Breslau 1912. 72pp., portrait frontispiece of the author, bound in blue cloth lettered in gilt, joints and edges rubbed with cloth to upper joint separating just a bit. "Gift of the people of the United States...." stamped on front pastedown In all, a very good copy of this important association in the world of chess.
