Creech, Manners, Miller and Constable Edinburgh, 1807. Hardcover. Recently rebacked retaining the original calf covered boards, Spine and marble endpapers retained, bookplate of Jane Hare presenting an amusing poem. Frontispiece portrait of James Beattie, 153pp., 166 x 98 mm., new maroon leather label titled in gold. Leather on boards and spine is very darkened with hairline cracks. Gold frames on boards in fair condition with a few points of loss, tooled gold bands and rosette designs on spine good. Condition of the text is good. Two books in one, "The Minstrel" takes the first 68 pages, thereafter is "poems on Several Occasions" including retirement, elergy. An ode to hope and pygmaeo-gerano-machia and others.
