About This Item

Minneapolis: T.S. Denison & Company., 1951 Library rebind in stiff card covers. 103 pp. This book contains a complete Minstrel Show in Two Acts, with all the dialogue, songs-lyrics and music, dialogue, stage directions and cues. Minstrel Shows were once a staple of American theatrical history, an entertainment consisting of comic skits, variety acts, dancing, and music, performed by white people in blackface or, especially after the American Civil War, African Americans in blackface. These shows portrayed and lampooned blacks in stereotypical and often disparaging ways: as ignorant, lazy, buffoonish, superstitious, joyous, and musical. Photographs on request.
