London: John Van Voorst, 1875. Octavo. Third edition of which an additional 100 pages of new matter. The original articles have been revised according to modern researches and views. The plates have all been newly engraved by copper for a sharper image and three new plates have been added and several of the original plates have been re-arranged and improved. One volume extended into two with plates following the end of volume two. 845pp., 48 full page plates (some in color) overleaf with text and 812 woodcuts. A handsome set bound in maroon cloth, spine lettering gilt, edges speckled red, internally clean and bright without foxing, spines faded. An exceptionally nice set.
