Notes, bibliography, index. Description: Includes a map frontis plus four black and white illustrations. The Meadow Lake region of eastern California drew thousands of gold seekers in 1865-66 as rumors of gold-filled ledges five miles long circulated the state. However, a profitable method of separating the gold from the surrounding granite was never found and finally only one lone hermit remained in the dismal wreckage of yet another boom town gone bust.
