First edition, limited edition of 50 SIGNED copies (38 in half leather and 12 in full), this being one of two (?) author's copies, lettered ("AC2") on the limitation page. 1 vols. 8vo. Author's Copy. The longest of Disch's Supernatural Minnesota novels. Billy Michaels grows up to be a doctor and investment wizard whose childhood pact with a demon enables him to cure AIDS, only to unleash an even more devastating plague. He embarks upon a plan to turn a rural county in Minnesota into a medical concentration camp for plague victims before events move beyond his ability to control them.

"Because of his intellectual audacity, the chillingly distanced mannerism of his narrative art, the austerity of the pleasures he affords, and the fine cruelty of his wit, TMD has been perhaps the most respected, least trusted, most envied and least read of all modern first-rank sf writers" (Encyclopedia of Science Fiction).
