Black and white frontispiece, tinted engraved title and regular title page, xvi (9-283). illustrated with 65 engravings, Includes the biography of Abraham Lincoln and, Colonel Julian E. Bryant, who took over the 46th regiment of black soldiers and unlike his predecessor who despised them, trained them and led them. Also General Farnsworth and a host of Illinois heroes are given biographies and engravings. A handsome copy bound in a modern 3/4 brown leather over brown cloth, raised bands gilt with compartmernts lettered and decorated in gilt marbled end papers re-newed, all edges gilt. Very nice.
