About This Item

Griffith Farran Browne and Co. Ltd., London U.K., 1890s . Hardcover. Poor+/--. 7 1/2 H x 5 1/4 W x 1 5/8 . NON SMOKING STORE. My listing includes PHOTO OF ACTUAL BOOK for sale. Book FAIR TO POOR/ Covers Fair. Boards and spine are brown cloth, lettering gilt, colour illustration on front cover of a sailing ship, also a sailor running up the British flag. FRONT COVER has minor edge wear but both corners are bent and tips are worn, front cover is not all that dirty but the colour on illustrations is worn a bit. SPINE has gilt title and author’s name, publisher is in black and has small colour illustration of sailing ship from the stern this time with a water reflection, with a sailor’s rope accent at top and bottom of spine, spine has normal usage soil and a slight light stain made when book was lying flat with front cover upwards, spine is worn for about 1/4 inch each at top and bottom with minor short tears and creases. BACK COVER has same edge and corner wear as front, back cover is plain and is a bit more soiled than the front cover but has no rips, no holes, no stains. Page edges very sunned to almost dark brown and pages title to 22 have small chips out of the side edges. Inner end papers were white but are now age darkened, a bit soiled and ffep has owner’s name neatly written on a line done by fountain pen and embossed in upper right outer corner of ffep is book store name etc. Inside of book is tight through most of book but all pages have age darkening on all four sides, getting darker the further back in the book one goes. At the title page, the book is cracked, with a gap of about 1/2 inch in which you can see the binding cloth, some of the threads are cut, and you can also see the front sheaves of the book. The cover is still securely held on however as the rest of the spine is OK. The title page and the first front plate are completely loose and have chipping on the side and bottom edges, also quite sunned. In a few places inside the book, the book has been opened far enough to make a slight gap through to the spine. When the book is handled, the book feels loose which is due to the previously mentioned damage to the front spine area, but all the pages are in place and none are missing as far as I know. With illustrations by C. J. De Lacy.

WILLOWBAY BOOKS

THERE IS NO COVID-19 IN MY STORE AND MY SALES ARE ONLINE ONLY. IMPORTANT NOTE RE POSTAGE: I love books and most of my books are NEW or LIKE NEW. I'm very careful in describing my books accurately and I've done so to the best of my ability using the IOBA Book Condition guidelines. All items are from a smoke-free, clean, dry environment. My books are from a large private collection, very well taken care of and rarely handled. All descriptions and photos are of the actual books I'm selling. I'm happy to answer any questions regarding my books, just ask. IMPORTANT RE POSTAGE: I'm in Canada so books to the USA/Other Countries are International shipments and may be delayed by CUSTOMS and/or HOMELAND SECURITY. I'm using the Biblio standard postage matrix, which gives average postage fees, therefore sometimes for an OVERSIZE or LARGE heavy book or expensive book, the postage may be too low and may require extra charges. If I know this in advance, I will notify the buyer before the order is processed.

This is not a huge book warehouse, it is a small one-owner store run by a true book lover. POSSIBLE DELAYS: I'm elderly and disabled and while this usually does not cause a delay in order processing, it sometimes may cause a small delay for me to get to the post office. Thanks for your understanding. I will always email you with the date your package was shipped, and shipping method used.

I'm sure you'll enjoy looking through my books, and purchasing from WILLOWBAY BOOKS. Thanks. Ms. Bronwen Kathy Williams, Ontario, Canada.
