Text is clean and unmarked in a square and tight binding. Card holder is attached to the back free end paper. Library stamps are on the outer edge of the text block and on the title page. A previous owner's bookplate is on the front free end paper and another owner's name is written on the top outside corner of the next page. Illustrated throughout. DJ has been protected by a plastic cover though shows some wear around the outer edges. From the front DJ flap, "This is not only a new book by C. W. Ceram; it is a new kind of book. It is a picture book to be read, a dramatization of the modern discovery of ancient civilizations, presented in a perfect blending of words and pictures. The rich text is complemented by 310 black-and-white illustrations and 16 color plates."
