About This Item
The History of England (1848) is a five-volume work by Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay (1800-1859), the English historian and politician. His history was a seminal work and continues to receive both praise and condemnation--praise for its brilliant, clear writing and condemnation for its one-sidedness (Whig). It covers the 17-year period from 1685 to 1702, from Oliver Cromwell to the death of William III.
I only have Volume I, which starts with Oliver Cromwell and ends with James II.
This copy is in bright red leather with a gorgeous silver design. It is from Heron Books, which used to use wood-free paper, although that is not stated here. It has an bound-in silk ribbon which is undisturbed--this book has not been read, or even opened.
Its only flaw is that the original owner placed a bookplate on the front endpaper. His/her name has been crossed out. You can either put your own label on top of that, or remove the plate (its easy--videos are available online).
Other than that, it is pristine.
