About This Item
Auckland, New Zealand: The Institute Printing & Publishing Society Ltd, 1968. First printing. Hardcover. Very Good/good. 140 Pages plus I to XIX. Dustjacket has some edge/shelf wear - tiny amount of loss to top of spine about 1.5 mm. Signed to "To Iain Lamont Best Wishes from Roy M. Hetherington" Google search on Iain Lamont: " Tuesday 24th October 2000 An eminent University of Otago Molecular Biologist today said that the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 has had a severe negative impact on research involving genetically modified organisms. This is out of proportion to any risks that the research might present.
Dr Iain Lamont said that excessive regulation is causing the cancellation of some research work and the transfer of other work overseas.
He advocated changes to New Zealand's legislation to reduce unnecessary compliance costs while continuing to ensure that any risk to the environment or public health is minimised.
University of Otago's Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry and Deputy Chair of the Institutional Biological Safety Committee Dr Iain Lamont will be presenting evidence supporting the University of Otago's submission to the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification in Wellington on Wednesday 25th October."
