Superbly bound in full red morocco, each of the three spines titled individually and tooled in gilt forming the complete Gate of Moria illustration when placed together in order. The upper board with the author's JRRT monogram in gilt. All edges gilt. Hand sewn headbands. Red marbled endpapers. Illustrated by the author, each volume with a large folding map at the rear. A stunning fine set, the contents spotless throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Housed in a bespoke black cloth slipcase. A beautifully presented example of a bibliographically important printing of The Lord of The Rings. This first revised edition features a new foreword and revisions to the first edition text by the author throughout. (Hammond & Anderson A5e).
