Paris: M. De Brunoff, 1922. First edition. Hardcover. Three quarter maroon morocco and marbled boards with matching marbled endpapers. Near fine. 24 pages in text. 39 x 29 cm. Limited edition, copy 157 of 500 signed by Bakst & De Brunoff. Frontispiece, a lithograph of Bakst by Picasso and 54 mounted color lithographs with lettered tissue guards. Based on Perrault's classic fairy tale the ballet La Belle au Bois Dormant premiered in the Marinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, on 15th January, 1890 with choreography by Marius Petipa. Diaghilev's Ballet Russes performed the work as The Sleeping Beauty during the 1921 season. Clean, fresh and bright copy. slight wrinkling to front cover free marbled endpaper, raised bands, spine lettered in gilt.
