This title examines the social, political, and cultural history of the United States in the period since 1920 in a portrayal of the struggles, successes, and failures of an increasingly multicultural society seeking liberty and equality. It begins with the post-war fear and hatred of black, Jews, Catholics, and all foreigners at th4e end of the First World War and the resulting emergence of protofiscist organizations developed with the avowed purpose of staving off modernity and preserving 'normalcy.' The authors then go on through the Great Depression, World War, cold war, and the post-war period of great affluence and rapid social change that increased the speed of social change that strained family and community life. Endnotes, indexed, acknowledgments, 363p. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
