Champlain Society, Toronto, 2007, lxviii, 493 p. : ill. b/w, fold out maps ; 24 cm, includes index. Very good. Letters were sent by Hope (1813-1882) to his father in Scotland describing his passage over to the New World and his efforts to get settled in Upper Canada. These letters are described as being "vivid and detailed". Hope had a modestly successful life as a businessman (hardware stores) and was appointed to the Senate on the recommendation of Alexander Mackenzie. Will require extra postage.
