Laurel, Montana: Laurel Historical Research Committee, 1979. Thick Quarto. xiii, 800 pages. Index. signed by Elsie P. Johnston. Senator Mike Mansfield has written a preface and noting the early history of the Laurel region. Beginning with Captain William Clark and Sergeant Matthew Prior to Martha Canary (Calamity Jane) whose house was on Canyon Creek. Elsie P. Johnston has gathered also the rise of the area after 1900 with hundreds of photographs and first-hand accounts of cowboys, businessmen, and elected leaders of the area. Laid in is a sheet identifying more than 50 of the contributors who assisted Elsie Johnston. A good copy bound in brown cloth lettered in gilt, spine gilt, light wear to corners and spine ends, in a chipped and edge worn pictorial dust jacket.
