About This Item

Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan: The Shuyeisha and Kelly and Walsh, Limited. Decorative Cloth. Very Good +. K. Ogawa. A handsome example of this lavish 2 volume set on late 19th/early 20th century landscape gardening in Japan. Vol. I ("Landscape Gardening....") is the 1912 second and revised edition and Vol. II ("Supplenent....") is the 1893 1st edition. Vol. I is solid and VG+, with brilliant pictorial gilt to the front panel and elegant blindstamping at the rear panel. Light wear to the spine (notably along the spine crown), light foxing at the preliminaries and armorial former owner bookplate to the front pastedown. Lavishly illustrated thruout as well. Vol. II is a tight, very sharp example of the 1893 1st edition. Crisp and Near Fine in its dark-green cloth, with brilliant gilt-design to the front panel and mirrored blindstamped design along the rear panel. Just a touch of very light scuffing at the front panel's lower-edge, handsome former owner armorial bookplate to the front pastedown. Folio, patterned, illuminated endsheets. 40 wonderful collotypes by K. Ogawa, all in near-pristine condition with their accompanying tissue guards, which have protected them well. A very impressive set.
