[6], vii-xi, [3], 272, [2] pp. Quarter black cloth over grey-black cloth with gold lettering on the spine; orange topstain. Price of $5.95 on front flap of jacket. Ahearn APG 031b. A Near Fine book with a tiny, faint crease to the first several leaves in a Near Fine dust jacket with a tiny crease to the front flap and a small closed tear to the rear panel.
Synopsis
Originally written in 1928, it was translated from Russian to English by Nabokov's son in 1968. The novel is the story of well-to-do Dreyer, who has a lovely but terriby cold wife, named Martha. Bored, manipulative Martha plots to make a lover of Dreyer's nephew, Franz, when he comes to work for Dreyer in Berlin.
