Blue cloth, color pictorial dust jacket in mylar cover, 376 pp. 102 bw and 257 color plates. A monumental publication which reproduces almost all of the American landscapes of Swiss-French artist Karl Bodmer (1809-1893). With essays by William H. Goetzmann and William J. Orr. Bodmer accompanied his patron, Prince Maximilian of Wied to the upper Missouri country in 1832-1834, and his depictions of this area recount the days prior to the wholesale influence of white settlers. Much to see and consider here.
