Boston: Crosby, Nichols and Co, 1856. Octavo. Third edition dated the same year as the first edition. Frontispiece, 366pp., 6pp. publisher's ads. An interesting account of life in the early settlement of Kansas. The author wrote this book during a three months' residence in the United States Camp, at Lecompton, with her husband, one of the state prisoners. She saw death by sickness, devastation by burning homes, death by murder or by mistreatment of the people by the governments troops and more. Bound in green embossed cloth, spine lettering gilt, pale yellow endpapers, wear to head and some splitting of cloth to upper joint and overall general wear, possibly nubers or label removed from spine? internally clean without foxing.
